Tuscany which is considered to
be the heartland of Italy, has much to offer its visitors from
the purple rolling hills to the rugged mountains which lead down
to the crystal, clear coastal areas. There is also the fantastic
Tuscan cuisine, classic Italian wine all grown and produced in
local villages, and the superb sun drenched scenery.
Borgo di Colleoli located in between Pisa and Florence offers a
choice of beautifully boutique styled hotel suites or
traditional Italian décor themed self catering apartments all
with stunning rural views which stretch as far as the eye can
see.
The countryside of Colleoli and Palaia are defiantly worth
exploring. Colleoli is a tiny Tuscan hamlet with just 12
inhabitants whilst the slightly larger village of Palaia has two
beautifully sculpted arches to view and an ancient historical
quarter with an old church and clock tower.
Florence is just an hours drive away and is renowned as the
jewel of Italy’s artistic movement. Worth visiting are the many
museums, art galleries and buildings of architectural splendour.
Ancient history can be absorbed in the medieval
villages of San Gimignano and Volterra.
Both dating back hundreds of years, Volterra has two fine
castles and numerous Etruscan remains whilst San Gimignano’s
historical centre is a world heritage site.
Pisa, which is famed for its leaning tower is just a 30 minute
drive from Borgo di Colleoli and is a great tourist attraction.
A popular day out can be spent touring a variety of local vine
yards to sample Tuscany’s finest wines. The Chanti area is
famous for Chanti Classico, a wine which established itself in
the English courts in the 17th century.
Many of the little villages and hamlets within the Tuscan region
offer a truly traditional insight into the Tuscan way of life
with most of them having regular hand craft or antique markets,
open for people to purchase Italian trinkets and home made
artefacts.
Chocolate and truffle tasting is unique to this particular area
of Tuscany. All of the confectionary is made on site which is
family run. Visitor’s can spend half a day looking around the
small factory and discovering what makes this Tuscan treat so
special.
The city of Lucca, situated in Northern Tuscany is individual to
other towns and cities in the region due to its historic walls
around the old town which remain intact today. It also boasts
some exceptionally picturesque gardens and pretty hamlets to
explore.
Tuscan food and Italian cuisine is a major reason that so many
tourists come to the country. Borgo di Colleoli has two
restaurants. The Enoteca is a wine bar offering a relaxed dining
experience and the I Secoli. This fine restaurant is located in
the original wine cellars of the Palazzo and is proud of its
award winning status. On the menu is a wide selection of typical
Tuscan food and drink.
